Product Overview

Abrasion resistant steel plate, also called wear resistant plate or wear plate, is a quenched and tempered plate with high surface hardness for components subject to sliding and impact wear. Jingye supplies NM400, NM450, NM500 and NM600 to GB/T 24186, together with 65Mn.

The grades balance high surface hardness with sufficient toughness to resist cracking during fabrication and service, and are supplied with controlled flatness for cutting, bending and welding into wear liners, buckets and chute components.

Grades and Standards

Grade Standard Notes
NM400 GB/T 24186 Nominal hardness approximately 400 HBW
NM450 GB/T 24186 Nominal hardness approximately 450 HBW
NM500 GB/T 24186 Nominal hardness approximately 500 HBW
NM600 GB/T 24186 Nominal hardness approximately 600 HBW, highest wear resistance
65Mn GB/T 711 Spring and wear resistant carbon steel

Available Dimensions

Thickness 6 to 60 mm for the NM series and 10 to 80 mm for 65Mn; width up to 3600 mm; length up to 18000 mm. Delivery condition is quenched and tempered.

Key Features

  • High surface hardness for extended wear life in abrasive service.
  • Quenched and tempered to balance hardness with toughness.
  • Good flatness and dimensional accuracy for automated cutting.
  • Suitable for welding and bending with appropriate procedures.

Fabrication Notes

Wear plate is normally cut by plasma or waterjet, and low-hydrogen consumables are recommended for welding. Preheating should follow the hardness grade and plate thickness, and heavy preheating is generally avoided on the hardest grades.

Applications

  • Excavator buckets, loader blades and dump truck bodies.
  • Mining screens, chutes, hoppers and mill liners.
  • Wear parts in cement, steel and power plants.

Delivery, Testing and Quality

Plates are rolled on 3000 mm and 3800 mm mills with a combined annual capacity of 6 million tonnes. Delivery conditions include as-rolled (AR), controlled rolling (CR), normalising (N), normalising rolling (NR), thermo-mechanical controlled processing (TMCP) and quenching and tempering (Q+T). Ultrasonic testing is available to GB/T 2970 (classes I to III), EN 10160 and ASTM A578, and through-thickness properties to Z15, Z25 and Z35 can be specified to GB/T 5313 and EN 10164. Hull structural plates are approved by CCS, ABS, BV, DNV, LR, NK, KR, RINA and RS.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does NM400 mean?

NM denotes wear resistant steel, and 400 is the nominal Brinell hardness of approximately 400 HBW. NM500 and NM600 are progressively harder.

  • Is wear plate the same as Hardox?

Hardox is a brand of SSAB, while wear plate and abrasion resistant plate are generic terms. NM400 and NM500 are commonly used equivalents.

  • Which sizes are available?

The NM series covers 6 to 60 mm and 65Mn covers 10 to 80 mm. Sizes outside these ranges are subject to technical review.
