Product Overview

Hot rolled steel coil, commonly abbreviated HRC and also called hot rolled coil, is a flat steel product produced by hot rolling without further cold reduction. It is the feedstock for cold rolling, pipe making and general structural fabrication. Jingye supplies cold rolling base material, tube making material, plain carbon and low-alloy grades, and checker plate.

Coils are produced on 1250 mm and 1500 mm hot strip lines with stable thickness, width and surface quality. Thickness ranges from 1.8 mm to 16 mm and width from 900 mm to 1550 mm depending on the line.

Available Dimensions

Thickness 1.8 to 16 mm; width 900 to 1550 mm depending on the line; supplied in coil. Checker plate is available from 2.5 mm upward. Hot rolled coil can also be levelled and cut into hot rolled plate or sheet on request.

Key Features

  • Direct feedstock for cold rolled, galvanized, galvalume and prepainted coil.
  • Suitable for electric resistance and submerged arc welded pipe making.
  • Stable thickness, width and surface quality for downstream processing.
  • Checker plate grade available for platforms and flooring.
  • Plain carbon and low-alloy grades available from the same line.

Applications

  • Cold rolling feedstock and pipe and tube making.
  • General structures, frames, purlins and flooring.
  • Machinery parts and welded assemblies.

Delivery, Testing and Quality

Plates are rolled on 3000 mm and 3800 mm mills with a combined annual capacity of 6 million tonnes. Delivery conditions include as-rolled (AR), controlled rolling (CR), normalising (N), normalising rolling (NR), thermo-mechanical controlled processing (TMCP) and quenching and tempering (Q+T). Ultrasonic testing is available to GB/T 2970 (classes I to III), EN 10160 and ASTM A578, and through-thickness properties to Z15, Z25 and Z35 can be specified to GB/T 5313 and EN 10164. Hull structural plates are approved by CCS, ABS, BV, DNV, LR, NK, KR, RINA and RS.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is hot rolled coil the same as hot rolled steel coil?

Yes. Hot rolled coil, abbreviated HRC, is the common shorthand, and hot rolled steel coil is the full form. Both describe the same product.

Can hot rolled coil be supplied as plate?

Yes. Hot rolled coil can be levelled and cut into hot rolled plate or sheet, also called hot rolled cut-to-length plate.

What is the difference between HRC and CRC?

HRC is hot rolled and has a scaled surface with a wider thickness tolerance. CRC is cold reduced and annealed for a smooth surface, tighter tolerance and better formability.
