High Carbon Steel Wire Rod
Product Overview
High carbon steel wire rod contains approximately 0.45 to 0.85 percent carbon and is used where strength and elastic properties are required. Jingye supplies SAE1045, SAE1050, SAE1055, SAE1060, SAE1065, SAE1070, SAE1075 and SAE1080, the SWRH42A/B to SWRH82A/B series, and 65Mn and 82B.
The structure and tensile consistency of the rod are controlled so that it performs reliably through drawing and patenting into spring wire, rope wire, prestressed strand and tire cord.
Grades and Standards
| Grade | Standard | Notes |
| SAE 1045 / 1050 / 1055 / 1060 | ASTM A510, SAE J403 | Medium to high carbon grades |
| SAE 1065 / 1070 / 1075 / 1080 | ASTM A510, SAE J403 | High carbon grades for spring and rope wire |

Key Features
- Higher carbon content delivers strength and elastic properties.
- Controlled pearlite structure for spring and rope wire applications.
- Consistent tensile properties after drawing and patenting.
- Uniform diameter and low surface defect level for high-speed drawing.
Applications
- Spring wire and suspension springs.
- Wire rope and prestressed steel strand.
- Tire cord and high-strength fasteners.
Delivery, Testing and Quality
Wire rod is produced on high-speed wire rod mills and released with a mill test certificate, with chemistry, decarburisation and surface quality controlled for downstream drawing, cold heading and welding. Products are manufactured under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between high carbon and low carbon wire rod?
High carbon rod contains approximately 0.45 to 0.85 percent carbon and is used for springs, rope and prestressed strand. Low carbon rod contains up to about 0.25 percent carbon and is used for drawing, nails and mesh.
- Which grade is used for wire rope?
SAE 1070 to SAE 1080 and the SWRH72A/B to SWRH82A/B grades are commonly used for rope wire and prestressed strand.
- Is decarburisation controlled?
Yes. Surface decarburisation is controlled as part of the quality regime, since it affects the fatigue performance of the finished wire.
