Product Overview
Low carbon steel wire rod, also called mild steel wire rod, is a coil of low-carbon steel generally containing up to about 0.25 percent carbon, used as feedstock for wire drawing, nails, welded mesh and welding consumables. Jingye supplies SAE1006, SAE1008, SAE1010 to SAE1022, Q235Cr and SWRCHB220-Cr and SWRCHB320-Cr.
Rod is produced on high-speed wire rod mills with a clean surface, tight diameter tolerance and consistent chemistry to suit downstream drawing and forming.

Key Features
- Low carbon content gives excellent drawability and ductility.
- Clean surface with low inclusion content for smooth wire drawing.
- Stable chemistry for consistent downstream product quality.
- Boron-treated variants available for combined drawing and cold heading.
Applications
- Wire drawing, nails, screws and welded mesh.
- Welding wire and construction tying wire.
- Cold heading where a low carbon grade is specified.
Delivery, Testing and Quality
Wire rod is produced on high-speed wire rod mills and released with a mill test certificate, with chemistry, decarburisation and surface quality controlled for downstream drawing, cold heading and welding. Products are manufactured under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is low carbon wire rod the same as mild steel wire rod?
Yes. Low carbon and mild steel are used as synonyms for this product, both meaning wire rod containing up to about 0.25 percent carbon.
- What diameter range do you supply?
From 5.5 mm to 16 mm, the standard high-speed wire rod range.
- What is SWRCHB220-Cr used for?
Boron-treated low carbon rod of this type is used for drawing and for cold heading into fasteners, where the boron addition improves hardenability after heat treatment.
